One primary source of federal government funding for archive activities is the NHPRC, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. There other sources of federal funding, but some of them require partnerships with other types of organizations such as museums or libraries. The Foundation Center maintains the online Foundation Directory, a list of private foundation funding opportunities, available only by subscription. Many public libraries and the State Library of North Carolina maintain a subscription to this directory.
