Western Office
We are a service branch of the Office of Archives and History, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, offering professional expertise in historic resource management. Our office was established to serve the western region of the state and was officially opened on September 4, 1978. We are located at 176 Riceville Road, in the former VA Hospital "Building 13," a contributing property in the Oteen Veterans Administration Hospital National Register Historic District in Asheville. Directions can be found by clicking the link in the Contact Us section. The Western Office is not a repository for historical records and does not have facilities for genealogical research.
In addition to administrative and technical staff, the office includes representatives from the Historic Preservation Office, Archives and Records Section, Office of State Archaeology and Office of Development and Marketing Communications.
