NORTH CAROLINA STUDENT PUBLICATION AWARDS

Each year the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association conducts contests to determine the state's best student publications. Magazines are entered in either the Middle School Division or the High School Division. First-place winners receive trophies. Certificates of merit are awarded for second place, third place, and honorable mention. The awards are presented at the annual meeting of the Association in November in Raleigh.

Judges evaluate publications on the basis of overall appearance, layout/design, proof-reading, quality of artwork and/or photography, quality of prose, quality of poetry, overall balance of content, and creativity.

For a publication to be eligible:

  • It must be a magazine produced entirely by students in middle school or high school.

  • It must have been produced during the preceding school year.

  • Four copies of each entry must be submitted to the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association office. Entries cannot be returned. Inquiries are welcomed at 919-807-7290 or at michael.hill@ncdcr.gov

The deadline for receipt of entries each year is June 30.
